Mapping a Forest while Searching for an Opposite Term of Exorcist [Public Space version] is an edited documentation/film experiment by Amanda Hameline in collaboration with Nishimura, the choreographer of the work. As an extension of the Danspace Project performances (Fall 2022), the video features footage of unannounced pop-up performances that took place in various NYC locations as well as Kenta Nagai’s original music scores. In an effort to blur boundaries between private/public spaces, daily/esoteric acts, personal/collective experiences, practice/performance modalities, the pop-up performances expanded the web of searching bodies into public spaces. The idea of announced pop-up performances also emerged as Nishimura’s unsettled response to ongoing discourses around accessibility, diversity and inclusion.
